S.I.G.N. (Signing In God’s Name) mission trip to Owensboro, Ky. is July 14-20, 2018.
Gospel Community Church in Owensboro started a deaf church plant, which is led by Danny Hilton. While they started with deaf people only, soon hearing family members started attending as well. Then blind people began attending and they now have 20-25 different diagnoses within their congregation. They currently rent space in another church to hold their services, but after putting together a down payment of $24,000 and the absolute blessings of God, they recently purchased an 8,200 sq. ft. metal warehouse that they are converting into their church.
Our plan is to help with drywall, taping, mudding and painting inside this building.
We will be sleeping and sharing our meals at Audubon Church of the Nazarene with shower facilities made available to us at the Owensboro YMCA.
We will hold a fundraiser lunch (pulled pork, chicken, potato salad, desserts) on Sunday, July 1 immediately after the morning worship service in an effort to provide some scholarship money for some of our group. Cost of the meal is a simple donation to help support our mission trip. Our three fundraising goals for this trip are:
- $1,000 for travel costs (fuel)
- $1,000 to help provide a basketball goal and play area for Gospel Community Church
- $500 for scholarships for some of our team members
